The scene starts with Amanda (
Athena Faris) seated in the back of a car. We can't see what she sees, but it's apparent that it's unfamiliar to her, as she gazes eagerly out the window, sometimes even whispering 'wow'. Soon, the car comes to a halt.
Amanda steps out, luggage in hand, but ends up in a dispute with the driver. Unable to understand the language, she finds it hard to communicate with him. A local resident, Josef (
Steve Holmes), sees the situation and comes over to help Amanda communicate with the taxi driver.
Amanda discovers that Josef is actually her host at the place she has rented for the week, but Josef insists there was a confusion and he never got her reservation. Left with no other options, he suggests that she can stay there despite his presence. CUT TO TITLE
A few days go by.
Amanda steps out of the shower. She looks for a towel, but the rack is empty. She looks puzzled, murmuring to herself that she was certain there was a towel hanging there before her shower.
She sighs and, shivering, she moves to the door and opens it slightly, calling out to Josef, asking if he could bring her a towel. He shows up shortly, with a towel in hand. He hands it over to Amanda through the small opening, as she conceals her nudity behind the door.
Josef reassures her, noting that in his culture, they are taught not to feel shame about their bodies. Eventually, he departs. Amanda breathes a sigh of relief, shaken by the interaction.
The following day, Josef proposes to guide Amanda around the city. However, now suspicious of him, she refuses. That evening, after her solo city tour, she gets back to find Josef waiting.
They end up in a heated argument, during which he threatens to evict her unless she sleeps with him. With no other alternatives, she consents. Amanda finds herself further from home than she ever thought possible.
