SCENE STARTS with Jeff (
Jake Adams). He sits anxiously in his vehicle. He drums his fingers on the steering wheel, glancing at his wristwatch in irritation.
His mobile vibrates. He picks up the call, placing it on loudspeaker. Hi mate, he greets the caller.
Hi little brother, his sibling Bobby replies. 'So have you collected her yet?' Bobby inquires. Not as of now, he's actually at the airport currently, her flight's already touched down so now he's just awaiting her to clear customs, he explains.
IF she clears customs, who can tell what she's concealing, Bobby remarks with a chuckle. That's not amusing, Jeff responds. He's aware of his feelings regarding this entire situation, but he doesn't need to be constantly jabbed at, Jeff retorts irritatedly.
'Apologies, it's just. I'm concerned for you. She's a MAIL ORDER BRIDE for heaven's sake,' Bobby exclaims. Jeff sighs, frustrated.
Yes, he's aware that he sounds like a stuck record, but seriously: how much does he REALLY know about this woman?, Bobby probes, worried. 'We've discussed this countless times now Bobby. She's a 22-year-old lady from a small village.
She's never even boarded a PLANE before. She's simply seeking a better existence. And I can PROVIDE her that existence,' Jeff declares.
Bobby exhales. They share a bond, Jeff adds. It's quite simple to feign a bond with someone when they're MILES away and you've only ever conversed with them over the phone, Bobby continues.
'Let's be honest, Jeff. When Dad passed he left us A HEAP of cash, and there are certain individuals who would want to. exploit that. You're a decent man Jeff.
You're one of the most trustful people I know. But YOU'VE NEVER encountered this individual. You don't know who she genuinely is.
I DON'T want to see you get wounded, mate' Bobby articulates. 'I understand, Bobby, but I DO know her. The things we've shared in our discussions.
look, I love you, but I'm a grown man, I can fend for myself,' Jeff clarifies.
Before Bobby can reply, Jeff gazes out the car window. She's arrived! He has to leave, he announces excitedly. Bobby appears to be about to speak, but Jeff seemingly ends the call and drops the phone on the passenger seat as he jumps out of the car.
He didn't terminate the call properly and Bobby can be heard saying 'Hello? Jeff? Believe you forgot to end the call, mate. ' Bobby sighs audibly. 'Damn it, just be cautious, Jeff,' Bobby mutters worriedly to himself, ending the call with a click.
CUT TO TITLE
Anna (
Izzy Lush) is now seated beside Jeff as he chauffeurs them back from the airport. Anna appears apprehensive, wide-eyed and somewhat overwhelmed as she gazes out the window at the passing views. So is she prepared to see her new home?, he questions, bringing the car to a halt.
She nods, her anxiety giving way to anticipation. Almost a year elapses since the pair has wedded. In the bedroom one night, Anna hands Jeff his usual pills after informing him that she completed his medical paperwork the previous day.
Jeff realizes that they are the incorrect pills and abstains from taking them, pondering aloud what they would have done to him if he had. Suddenly, Jeff is consumed momentarily by suspicion towards his wife since he just added her to his will the prior week. He dismisses these suspicions immediately, kissing her before settling into bed.
Days later, Jeff returns home with a bandage on his forehead, injured because the brakes on his vehicle malfunctioned. His paranoia increasing, he contacts the mechanic, who informs him that it's possible that a puncture they discovered in the brake line could have been done intentionally. This sends Jeff over the edge and he is now completely suspicious of his wife.
The following day, Jeff rifles through Anna's belongings trying to find something incriminating. He stumbles upon a brochure for a funeral parlor. When Anna enters, he confronts her and accuses her of trying to murder him for his wealth.
She denies his accusation. Enraged, he is resolved to show her that he is not someone to be messed with. He begins to unfasten his shirt.
What is he. doing?, she inquires with apprehension. 'WHAT?! Is there something WRONG with a husband desiring to be with his LOVING wife?' he questions. Anna looks at him, taking a deep breath and swallowing her fear.
'N-no, of course not, t-there's nothing wrong with that. that's. okay,' she murmurs.
